A Hearts Companion at any Age
An older gentleman here in Long Island lost his wife to cancer about two years ago. He was in his early seventies with plenty of life yet to live and a desire to share the years he had with someone special. He had a desire to travel, to explore, and to do the things he hadn’t been able to while he was the primary care giver to his ailing wife. For six years, he took care of her every need. Now that she was gone, he was lonely and wanted a companion.
He didn’t intentionally seek out women to date, but found the company of his wife’s cousin in law a source of comfort. She had been divorced for over twenty years. They had stayed in touch as friends and former relatives. As time drew on, they realized that they had feelings for each other, common shared history, and friends. The friendship developed into a sweet romance and talk of marriage ensued.
They began to plan a very simple wedding, with just their children and close friends, a little church, a little social, a little cake, and a happy couple. They hadn’t originally planned to get a jeweled wedding ring; a simple band would suffice at this time of their lives. One day while window shopping they wandered in to jewelry store in Long Island who sold Pandora. The styles were fun, sweet, and original. The rest, as they say, is history.
She found the ring that said love, companionship, and happiness; he found a way to tell her how much of the hole in his heart she had healed. They walked out happy and content.
Pandora on Long Island didn’t make their relationship but it was a sweet symbol of their love and affection. The moral of this story is you are never too old to find a hearts companion or a best friend.
